I can only say that the heater fan in my S320 is one of the quietest I have known. On the first two settings you can hardly hear it, it is only when you get to full that it could be termed noisy.

Much quieter than my old C200 and the Jag X type.

It depends on the noise its making, could it be a leaf or debris stuck in it

easy enough to remove the lid on the blower and had a look, might be the motor bearings are on the way out.

Hi soota man .It could be leaves. I think that probably the brushes are on the way out. I have posted recently on this in respect of a C class w202. I am not sure about your model> However the fan should be under the glove box.You will need to pull it out by removing the dust filter and pollen filter and undoing the screws holding the fan in place. Unclip the electric harness and have a look to see if the brushes (usually two) can be removed by sliding out of their locations. Dont worry about the soldered wire straps attached to these contacts. Come back on the forum once you have done this. The fan motor is extremely expensive to replace so it is better to repair it where possible. This is usually at a fraction of replacing the whole fan assembly.

The S-class leaks water into the fan and causes the motor to become dry and noisey.

also check the air intake drain, under the grill, under the bonnet on the N/S.
