Hi - wonder if anyone in the know would be able to offer advice on the car at the following link, thinking of purchasing it but dont know too much about pricing or what to look for on this model.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Ohhh I didnt go into that detail.

At 9 owners its been around the block a few times like a tart I say.

Been purchased, owners had fun, realised they cant afford the upkeep, sold.

I wasnt sure whether that should put me off...

1) if like me the owners treated the car nice for at least the first year (like I think most people do), then for 9 owners means for 9 years its been babied...is one train of thought...
2) or it could have been ragged by 9 people...and be begging for some peace and quiet...?

What do people think - stay away from it?

Not an S63 but bought my SL500 (R129) and was the tenth owner after twelve years.
Each owner had had the car around a year, had it serviced and moved it. Only one owner had the audacity to travel over 60k miles in two years in it which bumped up the low miles.
I’ve had it ten years and it’s been fine.

Just check the service history properly, make sure it all works twice, and make your call from there..

If the car has had the upkeep required, ticks your boxes in terms of options and price then go for it.

Make sure everything works, get in the car, take it for a test drive.

A car like that means you need a wallet of a person buying it new to keep it properly maintained, if not I gurantee soon 10 owners!

Mioba, Thanks for the advice.

Will drive and test everything.

As for upkeep, I think my current fleet shows that I am not shy of upkeep on expensive cars so prepared for that.

You may ask then why not just go for something newer, well for a fifth car I wouldn't want to park more than 20 - 30K in it and I do prefer the shape to the later model which I am sure is a fine and nicer car but the models (C, E and S) all look the same, where as the 2008 has amazing presence.

Will keep the board updated with any developments - but really wanted to know if there were any items worth being aware of in terms of mechanical reliability on the AMG 6.2 engine, transmission and other major mechanicals.

Thanks.

I would put more emphasis on the service history than the No of owners

The number of owners means nothing, the same goes for service history, total waste of time. Look at my Money Pit, MB history, low ownership lovely car, however it is destoned to bankrupt us!!
Just make sure the car wasn't built on a Friday Afternoon!!!! ;)

I decided against the S63 as I already have a saloon (sedan) with a big V8 in the M5 therefore looking around for something a bit different and I have found an 2008 SL63

What are the views of those in the know about an SL63 - It's got approx. 60K miles and a FSH for around £27K

Also I saw a youtube video saying that the M156 was flawed (head bolts, cam shaft, lifters/tappets etc) but up until viewing that video I was under the impression that it was a very reliable engine.

Going to view the car tomorrow so any advice would be appreciated.
