Hello, my SL r129 is in Brilliant Siliver on all of it, but of course the Sacco panels are mat (or kinda satin). I am trying to repaint small parts of it and have a spray gun, and the correct MB paint, but not a matting agent. Any ideas on what I could use to add to the paint to make it like the original (which is not bad condition overall) would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have read about this ..The paint shop put in the paint a special additive to take off the shine , and give it a mat look .There is also another additive thats used at the same time to stop paint cracking . I will look for it .

As it's a metallic it will need lacquer over the top. Just use a matt lacquer.

hi; is 744 metallic? Is that what Brilliant Silver means? It is certainly a very glass like gloss.

The paint and thinners I have got are solvent based, match the upper parts exactly. But I don't think just mat clear coat on the panels would make it match.

A paint shop will know And there might be even other updates on paint and on how its done today . Mercedes will tell you more about it if you ask them .

Mine were redone by a previous owner in gloss and to be honest I prefer it.

yes it looks great, but I like mine original. Actually it is only in certain light that you can see the difference on mine and I like that.

OK I found it on Ebay, both flex agent and matting agent, plus the 744 paint, at autopaintsbrightonltd. Ha ha, I used to go out in Brighton.

Garista Your car looks very nice i love convertables ,.
Thank you. I think it looks better with the hardtop though.
I've been working on it, correcting the paint in small areas. The most wear is on the lower panels, otherwise the paint is very good, and original.

I'm going to have to experiment with the mix in the spray gun!

I have found Sacco panels & bumpers easy to DIY paint. For whatever reason, it just goes on nicely. I used made to code rattle cans, plastic primer & satin (not matte) laquer on eBay and went for it.

I honestly don’t think you would notice it’s rattle canned.

Thanks, good to know, I might try that.
I bought a small compressed air spray gun which works good. I find I make more errors with cans but I'm learning with both.

I have used both .And i love spraying .But do it right, also i found a good paint finish from a rattle can comes out good . Non matalic colours are even better,, i used a brush to do one paint job ...wait till paint is nice a hard and then wet and dry until it is flat ..run your fingers over the paint, and if you can feel anything, then this will tell you it not ready for polishing yet ,, if its feels ok ,then start to polishing it with polishing compound first medium next very smooth to extra fine . Then a good polish .
