Sorry to horrifiy people, but yes I am considering this.

Is it possible to fit a 617 engine into an r107 chassis? I do not mind sorting out the electrics and instuments, fuel system etc, but would the engine fit on the original mounts and mate with the gearbox?

I know that the r107 uses the 116 engine, and that the early 80s w126 was available with the 116 and the 617, therefore they should fit where each other fits. Sound logic or am I over simplifying too much?

I'm not talking to you

actually, I am, just thought I'd make you feel bad.
Certainly any of the diesels which fit an M103 280 or 300 tranny would go, but I don't know enough about the 617.
You'll certainly get more than adoring looks when you drive by in your RD 107

Yes, no problem, I used to do that kind of thing once, hardest thing to deal with is the extra weight.

When my friend gets 60-70 mpg from his S class 320cdi,and a 0-60 just ½sec longer it is a bit off putting against the SL500, and then you need to make it sound different, how about a loudspeaker or horn driver playing into a dummy exhaust pipe with some pre recorded V8 sound tracks, brought into action say like a self drive studio in a radio station.
