SAM box? HELP

Hi,

I've a C250 TD 1997, whenever I turn on the ignition the wiper starting automatically and won't stop, till I switch it to position 1 and the heating fans aren't working. If I do switch to pos 1, then it'll stop in 30 sec. So my mechanic checked the switch and it looks ok, finally he found out that the black box under the fuse table (I think called SAM) has water damage on it somehow, he thinks if we replace that, it will solve the problem. But he thinks also, if we replace that, I'll need new keys as well as it looks like that's controlling the immobiliser too.
Could anyone please tell me, if we're right, or can it be sorted out, without changing that box?

Thanks in advance.

sh

It is a SAM in a way but very small,,, there are modified lids and seals to keep the water out. Both the small and large.

I would wash out the stalk first with switch cleaner and dry the SAM

Hi,

Thanks for that. We've tried to clean it, but didn't help. About the other half of my question, do I have to get a new key with it, if I'll replace the SAM? By the way, here is a picture about it.

Thanks

No you should not have to change the key on a SAM.

Why not slip the cover off the sam and see what its like inside.

During the day I will look on the diagrams to see what part that plays in your fault, the multi relay could also be at fault

Hi,

Thanks again.
We've tried, but no luck to take it apart, it's tight and didn't want to break it. So if I'll buy a new one from say ebay, will that work by simply replace it?
The relay was checked by electrician, working fine.

You have relay K1 wiper stage 1. relay K2 wiper stage 2 and the multi function relay. yes these components all go through that K40/2 SAM I can see no ignition parts going to this

I'm not sure, if I get this:-? that part is stripped of, from the rest of the cover and fuse box and everything. So I'm planning to replace this box, you reckon this should fix my issue?

They are the numbers used by MB so that all cars talk the same language so the K40/2 is the one in your picture

Thanks. I've found a couple of them on the net for sale, all has the same model number as mine on the picture 019 545 56 32 SAM, but at the right bottom corner I have K4 in the circle and the others have different numbers, say K6, or K5 would that make any differenece in the matter of replacement for me? Hope this is my last question!
