Hi All,
I've recently noticed my sat nav doesn't have loads of roads on there when out and about, when i've looked the sat nav version is from 2016. I don't really want to be paying MB prices to get this updated so i was going to look at doing it myself.
Anybody had any experience doing this? How easy is it? How do i make sure i get the correct disc for my car?

TIA

When we bought our car we had to buy the SD Card separately as for whatever reason it came without it. I bought the Garmin Map Pilot for 2015/2016, which now shows as being unavailable so I'm guessing you can just buy the latest version and pop it in, assuming you have the same set up, however being a mere female what would I know :p

Email your VIN to sales@comand.co.uk so they can look up the build sheet for your car and advise you what you need. At a guess if you have comand in a car of that age you'll need a PIN specific to your car's VIN and the DVD's to update, so at full price you'll be looking at about £150 - occasionally some MB dealers have a special offer of £99.

I have Command in my car and spent £117 a year ago at Mercedes Exeter. It's worth leaving until later in the year I'm told, as the update comes out around now.
I know JBell is a big fan of Waze but I didn't want another screen in the car and I find a phone screen too small anyway.

I'll make my update last a while at that price but I like the integration, and long ago accepted that Mercs cost money so I will put up with it for now.

Loads of roads in 4 years with 2 years of Covid? Roads do not change that rapidly & how many does your SatNav really need to get you close to where you need to be.

I purchased a TomTom in 2008 in Australia, was able to use it in 2015 to tour NZ, USA, Iceland and the UK. Roads generally do not change that radically.

I guess a lot depends if you were born in the generation that could find their way without SatNav or are totally dependant on SatNav.

My 212 still has the original 2011 maps I use TomTom 5200 live, it cost £200 about 4 years ago 2 new updated maps every year. I can also download maps for anywhere in the world, used it for the USA 2 years ago. Its much quicker than the Mercedes one, & live traffic updates quicker.
In the SLC we use Waze on Apple Play, completely free apart from a small amount of data.

I updated my nav every year in COMAND but it is crap (in my car)

I only started using Waze a couple of months ago and it is superb,, my phone is clipped on near the normal NAV screen so no real difference but it is always up to date to the point of telling you if there is a car on the hard shoulder

Another option is to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. I use it on my brand new E53 as the MB map is garbage. Keeps your phone charged and you can use either Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps

I bought the TomTom for the bike and liked it so much I bought the windscreen adapter to put it in the car so all my recorded places move with it.
Updates are inclusive with current TomToms so if it sees my home wifi it checks in and starts requesting permision to just do it.

I've never been impressed with the Sat Nav in our cars and we've had about 4 Mercs with it. We sometimes turn it on just to go somewhere local to see if it gives us the right directions, it usually tells us to turn right at a no right turn junction and drive through Wickes car park, they are a joke at times!

My wife’s car has the Becker module (2015), mine has the Comand (updated by MB 2 years ago) and have had zero problems with either. We’ve had many MBs and never had a problem with their sat nav. However, we are used to being able to find our way without a SatNav.
