Bought a 2006 E280 last week and drove it across the UK with the Sat Nav working perfectly. Loaded it onto a car ferry and now the Sat Nav keeps showing me just off the coast!! The manual says that after being towed/on a ferry etc the Sat Nav needs time to reset/reposition. Its 5 days later... Any one got any ideas on how I could get the system to reposition/work? Thanks

Where are you?

Do you have the correct navigation disc for your location inserted?

Have checked the disc and its for Europe. I'm in Ireland and I can see the map of Ireland when I scroll around. I even entered a route destination for Belfast and the system calculated a route for me (and warned that a ferry trip was required!!)

The only thing I can find suggests switching on COMAND and select Map and "drive around until the position or road correspond to the real circumstances"!

Thanks for the quick response whitenemesis. Not sure I'll be able to get an outboard motor to fit the Merc though...!!

The dealer is working on a solution so fingers crossed...

LOL :p

So have you tried the "driving about" with Map selected? As you said COMAND can see the satellites it just needs to get some bearings?

Thanks again for the suggestion. I'm going to have another go at the driving about lark tomorrow. Not sure I had map selected for long enough last time I tried it. The COMAND is showing correct direction bearings i.e. the compass is working etc just from the wrong spot.

Is it showing the correct LAT. and LONG. position?

Update:
I'm dry but COMAND still not working! Drove for about an hour today with the Map on but still showing a reference point off the UK coast.

Chas - not sure where the lat & long should be showing. Doesn't appear to be showing any position info. The info bar at the bottom of the map is effectively blank - just shows North: East: Alt: with no info.

Contacted dealer but they don't have an answer - suggested I go to a dealer here and have the COMAND rebooted? Does this sound right? Is it covered under manuf warranty?

Sorry you are still having problems. I think a reboot can't hurt.

Perhaps give these guys a call...

www.comand.co.uk

I'm sure they can advise much better than your dealer... On that note if the COMAND came factory fitted then yes it will be under warranty

On the bottom of the display it should tell you how many satellites the car can see, and therefore get info from, it needs 4 for first positioning and then at least three to keep track of you.

If you are not showing any then I think your antenna has gone down.

Disconnect, wait 10 minutes, connect and it should work! Just like a reboot.

Thanks for all your help. Had a happy ending. Looks like you were right Ellsy. The car has been to the dealers twice at this stage. Problem diagnosed as faulty antenna (whatever happened it on the ferry?...). It cost 100euro just to find that out. Another 340euro to get new antenna and have it fitted. Pretty expensive experience. This is where it gets good!!... My dealer in the UK (Colin in Mercedes Cheltenham & Gloucester) made numerous phone calls to the Dublin dealer who did the repair to have it covered under the warranty. None were successful - 3 year warranty in the UK - just 2 in Ireland! Top marks to Colin though he came through and covered the cost of the repair. Its been a great experience dealing with Colin in terms of help and responsiveness. Makes a difference from the dealer here who was just interested in getting my money. Thanks Colin.

sat nav

HI
you need to adjust display settings to show gps settings you should get a little picture of a satalite and a number underneath it (as well as lat and long) if the display shows 0 its very likley a GPS anntena problem although it could be NAVI unit (very unlikly)
