With the Covid outbreak impacting flights for our trip to Italy we have decided to drive, the only way we can go ahead with holiday as it's already paid for.
Decided I needed Sat Nav updated from 2009 spec to latest maps, in order to facilitate this I also needed a Star firmware update to Comand. I made some enquiries and was quoted around £306 to resolve, for both firmware and DVD's, but none could perform work before we set off (Sunday).
In desperation I phoned Mercedes directly, who coiuld not only get disc but could also update firmware and add as an additional job to perform before we go (I phoned Weds and car was booked in for today). Not only did they update the system they also performed the whole task for little more than the cost of a disc from online retailers. Calls to let me now how work was progressing and also provided a free health check with video sent explaining what was found.
I was sceptical and expected I would receive a long list of "essential" work required, especially as it is a 10 year old 114k car. Was pleasantly surprised to receive feedback stating all ok though rear flexi hoses may need changing at next service, no pressure to resolve anything there and then, indeed specifically told no issue for upcoming trip.
Moral of the story I guess is that main dealer not always the most expensive and worth considering.
