Hiya,

I have one of the S320 (2002 model) with the factory fitted command system. And that's the only sat nav I've ever used. I hadn't compared it against any other systems until a few days ago when a friend of mine turned up with a basic model of the Tomtom device.

What really confuses me is how come a basic Tomtom is million miles more user friendly than the merc's supposedly high-end technology which cost many times more. My Command does not allow full post-code input, let alone house numbers. For example, if I'm going to a place with a post code WD20 1LA, I'm only allowed to key in WD20_1, then I have to manually put in the actual street name. House number function is simply non-existent.

By the way, the disc I use is from Merc itself last year, the 2005 version.

Can anyone shed some light on this and maybe point me to the right direction on an upgrade? Is there any alternative software to buy or do I have to put up with Merc's own?

Many thanks

Tony Tup

Hi Tony
I bought a 2005 disc from Teleatlas last year, £99. Although postcode input is limited, you can enter house numbers.
I was on the phone to Teleatlas this morning about updating to TMC disc. Current price is £159.99, however on monday they have a special offer:
£149.99 plus one free disc of European country of your choice.

Jay,

Thanks. But what's the TMC for? Would my Command system support it?

Cheers

Cannot recall what TMC stands for. (plenty of threads on this forum on the subject).
Basically, warns you of traffic jams and hold ups ahead and re-routes you to avoid them.
Teleatlas assure me that this will work in my pre-facelift S320.
There is more info on the Teleatlas website.
Hope this helps.

I have a 2000 S320 and purchased the 2006 Teleatlas DX disc. (£95 without TMC)

Whilst it only accepts partial post code, you then put in the street or road, and house number. Works perfectly.

The TMC version was about £50 more, and I am sorry I did not get it.

Is this the disc to which you are referring because it would be great to get my system up to date. I have an E320 2003 with Comand and latest software doesn't even recognise M6 Tollroad TMC would also be brilliant.

Do you have the dvd based system? If so there is another thread ongoing on this forum.

I can confirm that the link to Teleatlas is the correct disc for the S320 pre facelift CD based system, and works fine.

Now that TMC is up and running it is probably worth paying the extra if you travel in congested or accident prone areas.

Says DVD ROM on my Sat Nav in the boot of my E320 does that mean that disc is not suitable for mine?
