Hi all

Recently purchased 2001 S320!!

Sat nav showing 00 sats!! otherwise sat nav working as normal but unable to fix accurate position!

After reading back on all associated posts took antennae off opened up and cleaned off water ingress etc but still no joy! MB want £165 + for new antennae but reluctant at moment as it may not be faulty!

Attempted to remove wood fascia surrounding command and after removal off ashtray screws and ashtray the fascia is loose at bottom but held tight at top around casette insert area!! Is there a tool needed to remove fascia to get at command unit?

There is a loose wire hanging in there which I suspect could be a feed to command for sat nav!!

Any replies would be greatly appreciated!!

An excellent site thanks to all!

Personally have not ever worked on an S class. However, the trim removal is probably achieved by working up towards the comand up from the gear selector, as it is in most Mercedes. For a W203 for instance you remove the gear selector, its trim, the ash tray, then work up to the comand. Removing the centre air vents above the comand reveals the fixings at the top.

Hope this helps.

Jony,

wonder if you found the cause of the lost sats? My 30 APS has just recently started to suffer from the same symptons. One minute cruising happily along the M6 towards home then POP! I'm off-road.....at least that is what the 30APS believed.

'Cos, actually tracing back the route, when the 30APS thinks it is back on the road, I find it believes it is near Kings Lyn. Never even been there!!!

I gather a mucky antenna may be the cause of this but having no knowledge whatsoever on what the antenna looks like, I'm rather stuck. No instruction manual available and no luck searching the forums or the internet.

I have a bump on the boot-lid of my SL320 and a sticky pad on the corner of the passengers window. Are either of these the antenna and if so, how do I remove them for cleaning?

Which brings me neatly back to Jony's experience. If his/her antenna was ok, what was the real problem?

Hope someone can help, 'cos I get lonely with no-one to talk to on my long journeys to the North and my sat nav girly always seems so nice, never loses her temper or shouts at me when I take a wrong turn.

Please forgive if I don't respond quickly, I don't usually manage to get on-line much these days.

best regards dougC
