Why not just get Google Maps on your phone? Updates for free in real-time and is the best sat-nav I've ever used. I'm quite surprised these days to find people who still use the factory installations...

Yep, like me, still use the 2002 satnav in my SL, it's a real drama to finally find the address without postcodes but got me to within 100metres from my destination unlike the 2009 SLK's satnav which would only get you to the road you wanted, which was good I suppose but sometimes the road can be 2-3 miles or more long

Depends whether you have the Garmin Map Pilot system (may even be Becker Map Pilot for 2015) or Mercedes' own Comand system.

The factory system in my 2018 car is excellent and saves me having trailing wires and phones stuck on the screen.

If you have ApplePlay run Waze on it from your iPhone, thats what we do in our SLC.
My E class is 10 years old & has the original mapping, its £100 a year to update. Its slow to calculate & update, no speed cameras, & slow traffic update.
I either run my iPhone on Waze on a cradle, or use the wife's TomTom 5200 Live.

Thanks guys
I do use Waze but I just hate the cradle and wires just thought I would use standard but I think, I would just leave it and just stick to my phone.

Fair point but the "wires" can always be discreetly routed and phone cradles can be mounted pretty much anywhere.

Google Maps can be operated entirely hands-free via Google Assistant. You also don't need postcodes - you can just say, "Take me to B & Q in Stoke Poges"... Can any factory unit do that?

I do agree you can’t get better the google. I do wish I had apple car play but my system is too old.

Actually, yes. The comand in my car does stuff like this (except you have to say "Navigate to ..." rather than "Take me to..."). The online search is pretty good.

Impressive. So it's got the names of shops, businesses, schools etc in its database, not just locations?

An old B-Class.
Just use what you have. It will get you to 99.99% of the places you want to go and then you can always use Waze, Google Maps or similar to get you the last few yards. My wife's car (which we mainly use and go all over in it) has a 2014 set of maps and it has never got us lost (and we are fairly new to the UK).

Not in the local DB I don't think, but modern Mercedes have LTE built in and permanently on-line and if it's not in the local DB, it defers to online search which seems to find most things.

You need one of these :)

With the added advantage that when you open it out, you can't see the speedometer so have a good excuse for being "a bit over the limit". Just be careful you don't spill your coffee on it as you turn the page going up the motorway

Clever! One last thing: can you view your maps as an aerial photograph, not just a map drawing? In other words, can you SEE the school building you're heading for and note that it's opposite a go-karting track, 3 fields up from a line of trees?

Nope, you don't get satellite view. It does draw 3D buildings in major cities, but that's about it. Tried this morning just for interest as I tend to use if for bigger places like airports, but asked it to navigate to my local B & Q and it found it and was spot on.

From what I have seen, Augmented Reality is amazing can Google Maps can replicate this and do you need to be connected to the Internet for Google Maps? (I honestly do not know)

'At the roundabout, take the fourth exit'

Augmented Reality very kindly paint a blue line on the actual road displayed on the MBUX screen which leaves no doubt what junction we need to turn into.

It would be amazing if the street knowledge of Google Maps could be implemented into the MB system.
