Help Please, Is this a warning of an expensive fix ? Dealer discussed over phone and said worst case new SBC required best case reprogramming ?? or something similar. Car 211 320cdi est 54 plate 43000 miles FSH. To his credit the service manager advised that he would pursue MB with vigour to recover costs if it is the worst case which could be £1500 parts and labour.Think I'l buy a lottery ticket this weekend. I'll advise of outcome to dealer after visit on 16th of month.
Regards and thanks for mbforum great site

All SBC pumps have a 10 year guarantee, MB announced that last year, The hold function may be something else though

Mine also comes up with this fault aswell as the battery fault i am hoping it is something to do with water getting in a sam unit, i was going to look at it today but it snowed. dammed inconsiderate. I am hoping to look at it on Sat if i find anything ill post and let you know. Good to know about the 10 year on the sbc pump though.

Thanks ,
perhaps your mention of the 10 yr cover explains why the service guy was so forthcoming with the claim from MB explanantion, I'll keep you all posted and perhaps I'll get up to 31,194 posts one day !
Cheers

This may be a SAM fault and nothing to do with with the actual SBC

Any other error messages?
When my ESP went on the blink (wheel angle sensor) I lost ESP,BAS and SBC Hold so I suspect it there's any fault in the 'handling' systems, SBC hold will shut off.

The only known danger one that comes up is "stop car" SBC brake pressure inadequate, but this is a late car

Hi JB
Approx once a month going round a tight roundabout the active lights are temporarily unavailable. Is this perhaps also a SAM issue ?
Thanks

Yes it could well be that, on some cars there can be up to 3 SAM ECU's by looking at the diagrams one can see what is connected to what SAM

Congrats to Elsy Tanner, selector module faulty thus sending mixed messages to SBC unit which quite rightly refuses to offer SBC hold as an option. Remedy is new selector module £280 ouch ! Given age 4yrs and mileage K43 the dealer is going to approach MB with reasonable request and I'll have to wait and see.
A big thank you to MB of Edinburgh who to date have been everything that I would have hoped for regarding this matter ie open, honest, realistic, loan car and 'phoned when progress report ready.I will keep you posted when developments occur.

Result, 40% contribution from MB means new selector fitted for £298 all in, mustn't grumble ! Advised about discs, pads and 265/35 /18 rear tyres so I have some more expenditure to look forward to !!! The joys of owning a great motor car.

Do not forget that MB advise that the disc and pads are in need of replacement when they are only 1/3rd worn
