I had the dreaded red SBC failure warning light back in Feb. After much research I tried the postal repair service offered by Auto Electronix Repair (https://www.ecu-repair.co.uk/). Unfortunately it was a complete disaster, the part didn't work and despite offering a guarantee messages and calls were ignored. The result is a wasted £420 for the refurb + £150 local fitting charges only for the car to now be scrapped.

If anyone has a similar problem, please avoid this service, stick with a local Indy garage and save your car from the scrapyard.

Hello and welcome,

It's a pity you didn't join the forum earlier - SBC rebuilds aren't uncommon and there is good advice in this section of the forum

When you say didn't work in what way did it not work?

Sorry to read this. Sad but true. Only way to mitigate costs on modern benz is research research and more research. Ask me how I f know. These days I keep on here and other places and I save any wriggle information I come across ref my vehicles. Only way to avoid 500 quid keys 1000 headlights 500 abc 1000 adblue . 800 front bumpers Sam and module dramas ect is, frankly as above or just buy a nice classic. I get that's not an option for long commutes and v big families but my NG is tax free simple electrics and weather permitted just relaxing to drive, next job is similar, with roof.! The NG has been France and back no issues. the ml has caused plenty of stress , warning lights, brake that won't release, adblue dramas, all electric/electronic /sensor related . I plan to be back in France next week for 3 days, I am considering a cheap 3 day car hire! How nuts is that. Currently no active warnings/codes, from previous, that cud be for 4000 miles or 2 or never, not much help in another country!!! I will never buy another modern benz, they are designed for the 3 Yr lease deals now and for sure dtf. At that point. I forsee major dramas getting pts for 10yr old modern benz. At least gen pts. Not for me any longer I am afraid
Meanwhile I must try to stick it out with w166 as its a good kick in teeth to trade/sell. Paid 18k three Yr ago and latest trade at 66k miles and in great looking condition in trade for grand tourissimo ( I know!) was 13.5k for a 2009. I was, I think just day dreaming, as its only just a classic and prob still quite modern electronically it's just so f pretty!!

Shame to be reading this. Not sure if he is a sponsor on this forum or the other side (JonnySBC).
A quick Google shows another 4 different companies offering SBC repair.

Is the op sure that the refurbed unit was faulty rather than the manner it was installed.

Install was done very carefully with all the correct piping and bleed procedure. I had my doubts throughout the entire experience as it was a nightmare getting the part returned. It’s a real shame as replaced so much over 12 months to keep the car running, this is now the end of the road for it.

The part didn’t work as in that once refit it showed an internal and pressure error. After second attempt at replacing the pressure reservoir the part still shows faults and after one press of the brake the red warning is on the dash with the loss of braking pressure and limp home mode. Basically back where I started on the original failure

I have scrapped several cars out of frustration only to regret it soon after. I’m sure someone here will recommend a good supplier for a pump & it will get sorted in the end!

Just be sure that something else is not p off Yr recently refurb pt. This modern crxp often shakes hands with other bits that to many would not make a lot of sense.
Frankly the only way to avoid the dramas is to become familiar with it all, incl diagnostics, have deep pockets or just don't buy into modern cars that often even the dealers don't understand. They are deliberately over complex now, practically forcing you to dealers A well fettled earlier model is a far better option if you don't like expensive dramas. And usually much info avail and if needed experienced indies.
No one who does not lease, pay for good extended warranties or have deep pockets should buy benz, possibly many others after 2010 as a prime motor
