Specifically : "The first generation of the 230's had SBC brakes, I powered braking system that was withdrawn on the "New generation" have EBC brakes a much better system."

From what I understand the user who made the comment above is well regarded for their knowledge. Was this simply a misunderstanding/mistype made a long time ago, or is the comment correct. To me that all reads as if it is specific to R230s. If so, can anyone expand a bit on the differences between EBC and SBC please?

Thanks
Mark

Check via your vin what system you have, there could have been a changeover period and this will be apparent based on your VIN,

SBC was dropped from the facelift in favour of EBC, so the eclass from 2006 ish (some maybe into 2007) and the 230 seemed to be around 2007 but there were instances of them being found on 08 & 09 cars

The R230 kept SBC till 2011. There was no room for a new system without a re design of the bulkhead and engine bay.
Noonboots, thanks. :)
Thanks everyone, I am going to keep in mind I have SBC.

SBC is a great system IMO and no longer the scary scenario if it goes wrong.

Far cheaper than a new (reconditioned) pump from the main dealers.

People had better start getting used to similar systems. Several manufacturers are using them on hybrids and electric cars.
