SCAM WARNING :: If this is not in the best place would one of the mods please relocate.

There is a company calling its self FIRST DIRECT LOGISTICS and the scam works like this:; You receive via the mail a very genuine looking "Sorry we missed you delivery type card" on it it says that they have tried to deliver a packet or parcel, please call this 0800 number there is no reply, just a leave a message again very realistic sounding. But with a little work I have found out that what they deliver is a debt collecion letter and it may be for a relation not even you, this is one slick looking operation. DONT BE FOOLED. I have sent them the $hi¬¬iest threating e-mail ever sent a copy to the OFT and am in the process of posting this on all the forums that I use. Please feel free to copy and paste it to any one you like. We all use the Wanted and for Sale section so some are always expecting post of some shape or form. If this has been posted before accept my appologies but, this makes my blood boil.

This is a bit odd. Debt collection letters don't have to be served personally - posted to the address is legally sufficient, as would be hand delivery to the letter-box.

Delivering one to you for someone else it utterly meaningless legally - can't see why anyone would waste the time, money and effort of doing it.

Must be something else going on - have to checked your phone bill to see how much that call cost? Scamming 0800 numbers that are actually billed premium rate was a fad a while back.

I had somthing similar happen a couple of years back. I recieved a letter from a so called debt collection agency cant remember the exact name, somthing like delta collections. As I didnt owe any money I rang the number on it. The phone answered immediatly and I got a recorded message, somthing along the lines of: Your call is important to us please hold. after 5 mins luckily I hung up, and didnt bother ringing again. When I got my BT phone bill I noticed that the 5 min call I made cost about £90!!! I told BT and after a lot of correspondence they refunded the £90. I could not believe that it was so easy to scam someone!!

ANOTHER SCAM!! I recently put my MB 300E up for sale, I had an interested buyer via/Money order. Luckily she had mistakenly gave the wrong amount, and I held the car until she had the remainder money, otherwise my car would have been gone, and I was stuck with all fraudulent money orders! The do look real!! Apparently she is doing this ALL OVER, SO EVERYONE BEWARE!

I used to work for an anti-spam/phishing company and a good portion of scams I've seen involve money orders. Bottom line: if the person asks to use a money order, say no. If they refuse to give you a banker's draft, knock 10 quid off the price to pay for it yourself. If they still refuse, chances are they're trying to con you.

And do beware that many banker's drafts are forgeries and therefore worthless. You need to phone the issuing bank and check that they have issued the draft you have been given.

And accepting cash is very risky unless you insist on depositing it in your bank first before you let the car go. There are lots and lots of really good forged notes out there at the moment especially 'twenties'.

BTW the most common scam at the moment according to our local police is to leave a card saying they tried to make a delivery but you were out. Please phone this number .......

When you do phone it costs £45 per minute or something ridiculous.
