I had the engine light come on and then received an Adblu Message, 16 engine stars remaining... I filled up the Adblu and the message continued to count down, when it hit 0, the car would not start. After researching, I found this is due to an emissions problem...NOX Sensor.
I have 106k on the car and it went out of warranty at 100k...

I purchased an ODB ECU hack that will enable engine start and then(step 2) after disconnecting the SCR, delete the Adblu.

AdBlu 16 to 0 Starts Remaining! On MB BluTec Vehicles.

!!!BEWARE!!! This is a countdown timer, when it reaches 0, your vehicle is blocked from starting!!!

Ok, so this was a learning journey for me.

So, what have I learned, and I could be wrong on the below but this is my interpretation of all the info I have read in hundreds of posts.

If there is any problem with your Emissions Control System, it can trigger this countdown timer.
For me, I believe it was a bad NOX Sensor that triggered the check engine light and then a couple of days later, the 16 Starts Remaining COUNTDOWN TIMER.
I didn't go directly to the dealer when I first had the check engine light... too busy just before Xmas... then when the AdBlu alert came on, I mistakenly assumed the AdBlu fluid was low... before it reached 0, I added more AdBlu fluid.
The COUNTDOWN continued....
Fortunately, when it hit 1, I decided to turn off the car, in my garage, until it got 0... then it wouldn't start, more specifically, engine start was blocked by the ECU, and the engine would not even turn over.
It was the Sunday before Xmas Friday.
My vehicle has 106k miles, my extended warranty ended at 100k... I was looking at having to tow it to the dealer, then, at least $1,000 in repair cost... probably more, my dealer is a rip off and over charges for everything so it could have been multiple thousands of dollars.
After a lot of research, I found many people having this problem repeatably with the BluTec's... this is my wife's car and I travel a lot, so I could only imagine what would have happened if it occurred to her while I was away...
Anyway, I ran across this ECU Software HACK SOLUTION via an ODB connector. There are many out there, I watch multiple YouTube videos and decided that the solution offered by a Russian company/guy seemed most authentic.
So, for $650 expedited shipping included... I ordered the solution that not only reset the COUNTDOWN Timer, it also Deleted the AdBlu system from the ECU... Completely.
I ordered it on Monday morning, paid using PayPal, sent Vladimir all the requested information, including the VIN.
I was of course nervous, but Vladimir kept in close contact, it took him 1 day to write/update the code for my ML250/W166 vehicle.
He sent me the DHL tracking number later the same day... he transferred the files to his partner in Canada and he transferred the files to the ODB connector module and shipped it from Ottawa.
This was Xmas week... I received the module on Thursday morning, about 11am... ran the procedure as outlined online in YouTube videos...
There are 2 scripts, first to reset the restart timer, it ran perfectly, in less than a minute, then the vehicle started immediately.
Ran script 2, Delete AdBlu from firmware, it also ran perfectly.
Step 3, disconnected the SCR/ECM module... so now my AdBlu system is removed from Software and Physically by disconnecting the connector.
Vladimir claims that the way he designed the code, not only do I never have to fill up the AdBlu system, or worry about failed emissions components standing my wife somewhere, but the vehicle will still pass smog emissions testing...
I'm very happy with the product and service, Vladimir was communicating back and forth with me on Christmas day walking me through any uncertainties before and during the procedure.
Cons: Vladimir does not speak English as a first language so you have to be patient and able to understand Ruglish a little.
There are some naming differences between the Russian components and English components... Vladimir refers to the SCR Control Module and in all US documents, the part number is called the ECM Control Module, / Connector.
Other than these speed bumps everything was perfect and I highly recommend this solution.
This guy is MB Software expert hacker/ mechanic. He has many other ODB based software hacks online as well and is very trustable. Tell him Tim Burton sent you!
Hope this helps someone and if you have any questions, just ping me.

So rather than fix your emissions system you bypass it and make your car illegal...
But your Russian hacker assures you it will still pass the emissions tests, so that’s all ok then...

You bet, gloves are off... MB, VW, AUDI... defraud the public with their emissions systems, settle for 700M. Then MB makes a system that can strand customers and cost them thousands... sorry but Timmy don't play that game.
Anyway, taking my SUV up to the mountains after the fix, 8000 ft elevation 150 miles so far, performing like it was new.

So the manufacturers get fined millions for making cars that will meet the emissions tests in certain conditions but you believe you’re right for disabling the emissions systems in all conditions?
Did you sign up for the class action lawsuit against Mercedes for the emissions?
Ad Blue systems are known to fail, same as almost anything else on a modern car. Would you remove your ABS pump if that fails or would you repair it? Both systems are safety related

Listen, I posted this to help people that are in the same predicament as me, you have your beliefs and values, I have mine, if this doesn't help you, go troll somewhere else. Have a Merry Christmas, I am with the thousand or so dollars i saved today and all the money and grief i will save myself in the future.
Btw, there's also a script on the ODB module to revert back to factory settings. If for any odd reason I would need to.

Sorry guys but until mb stop ripping us off with this stuff I agree with him, tim and would do the same.if maker had made sure we understood the systems and ramifications of same, at purchase I would feel different about it .this emissions stuff should be better built /made/covered then the whole issue of what right, wrong would be academic
Right now its my view that maker just run this stuff as a cash cow bonus created by legal requirement, why would makers be in any rush to change that ?? Whilst I prefer by far to remain std I will be saving tims info and how to,hoping that issue does not effect me prior to getting rid of the motor concerned, but ready to do just that if it does happen certainly whilst the ridiculous costs remain as is.

So pointing out that what you’re doing, and advising others to do is illegal is “Trolling”...
Please let me know how that works out for you...:geek:
