Scraping exhaust - suspension buffers

Hi Guys

My first time here so be gentle if I ask a question that is obvious and already covered in many threads.

I own a 250 ce built in 1970. The suspension is very soft and sometimes bottoms out when going over bumps etc. I was with a mechanic today who mentioned that he remembers something he thought was called a suspension buffer (rubber) that would heighten the suspension by a good bit.

Does anyone know what this is and if they are still available. I don't want to scrape my exhaust any more!

I am based in Dublin, Ireland.

Many thanks in advance.

So can you get these extra buffers easily enough to fit that would solve the problem of bottoming out.

I would look on a caravan spares part site, they have all of the things that fit in the springs that are used when towing

I'd look at some new springs or dampers first, mine dont bottom out and i'm not gentle with it, its my everyday cars too so it deals with speed bumps driveways, multi story car park ramps etc etc, it certainly leans round corners and lifts at the front when i gas it but it dont bottom out, got any pics, so we can see if it sits low? they should sit quite high as standard.

Mines got loads of clearance, maybe a previous owner has lowered yours or the springs have gone soggy, they could be 38 years old after all. :D

Thanks guys

so what's the story with the prices of these things. For a new set of springs etc I assume that you would have to fork out quite a bit to get them. Where is the best place to source them.

Is there any down side to the towing assistors. Is there a specific type to get.

sorry for all the questions.

I have tried to imbed some side on shots of my car.

Hmmm, looks like it may be an inch or so lower than mine, i'll measure it today.

Always give your local Mercedes dealer a ring first when hunting for spares, not only do they keep most things still for these cars but they drop the prices on older spare parts and often you'll find they are so close to the price of aftermarket parts its worth buying the genuine ones, so far i've been quoted headlight glass £16, coil £60, dizzy cap £60 for example, and bear in mind mines the twin cam 6 pot so has the most expensive engine parts on it, 2 sets of points for example. :S
