As some know, I recently bought myself a 2003 E55. So far very pleased with the car, but I have had some work done on it (to make it "mine").

This included the the front & rear discs replaced. No need for pads as I was told they were brand new (MB Colchester confirmed this).

Anyway, I have noticed that the wheels make a squeling noise when driving at low speed (at higher speed I can no longer hear it). Like something would be leaning against the wheels or perhaps even the brakes. There's no brake force applied from what I can feel.

If I brake, the sound dissapear...

Dealer has had a look, took of wheels again and just checked over the pads & discs. As always, nothing found.

Any idea of what this could be?

Thanks
Patrik

common on any 55 model, been out to a few for this fault, the pads are so close to the disks, at low speeds you dont get enough pad knock of, in other words the warp of the disk dont knock the pads back, or the pads havent been greased when fitted!!!!

Thanks. Discs are brand new so they shouldn't be warped (certainly can't feel any of that when braking). Greased.... hm, I have heard about this.

I will give dealer a call.

I was under the understanding that the pads massaged the discs so that in wet conditions the discs are kept dry. Could it be this?

Yes, but isn't SBC standard on the 211?

I do have SBC on this car (whatever that is?) and new pads fitted by previous dealer, something MB also confirmed as they did not want to change them nor charge me!

It it stops when the brakes are applied then its definetly some part of the pad touching the disc and can be easily cured by taking the pads out and applying plenty of grease before putting it back together. Also worth checking whether the pads are new or have slight wear on them, as far as I know, EVERY garage will suggest a new pad to go with new disc even if they are only used for 400miles. I am sure others will have some input on this too. My understanding is that when we first use wear in the new pads, the top layer is burnt off and if they were used with your old discs then they might have caught some wear of the discs.
