Good afternoon all...
Ive just been cleaning my R129 500 SL and only just noticed (in the bright sunlight ) there are lots of vertical scratches on both door glasses.
Just wondered if any one had anything to share on this, causes/treatments etc. Im guessing its to do with roller guides, maybe disintegrated ?? Im quite alarmed because its quite bad, and noticeable to the touch, so obviouosly quite deep.
Any suggestions / thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thank you.:(

Jeweller's rouge is a glass polish which may help with the scratches but I would look at the inner & outer door top seals for the cause. They use a felt type seal with can trap grit/dust causing the marks + noises.

Frost do sell glass polish but id depends on how deep the scratches are.

My 129 had two quite bad ones, and I do not know why they are worse than the other cars.

Do what type49 says and clean out the top channels, a flat knife will get most out

My W210 has exactly the same marks, caused I presume by cack getting stuck in the window seals.

I periodically use a razor blade to clean the organic gunk from the same seals.

Hi

Where would you obtain jeweller's rouge? A hardware store? I cannot recall coming across it before.

As Parrot above, only buy the smallest packet otherwise you will have enough to do all of the cars in you street

Thanks Parrot', Thanks Malcolm

I'll place an order immediately.

I suppose the 'polish' to remove scratches from CDs and DVDs is too gentle and won't work on glass?

Yes they will do nothing on glass

You do need a foam head on the polisher for the glass polish to have any effect.

A piece of foam stuck to a sanding back plate will do, and no more than 800 rpm.

Do cover the car as it goes every where
