Yesterday, my wife found my three pointed star grille badge lying flat on the bonnet. An attempted theft. When she touched, it came away in her hand.
The circle's still there, but the three points have gone from within the circle.
Hope the offender is happy and can find a good use for part of a Mercedes grille badge.
I've heard there's a chrome blanking piece that can be fitted instead of the usual grille badge, so does anyone know where I can get one, please.
I know these badges are very reasonably priced, but the same thing will happen again in this area, so it's pointless putting a proper badge back on.

Why oh why must they do this sort of thing?

Yes you can get a flat badge but really... don't.
The badge really makes it imo and you'll miss it if you do. They don't go missing that regularly so stick with it.

It really would be pointless putting another badge back on, as much as I want to.
Every car apart from one that I've had here has been damaged.
I've even had a traffic cone put through the back window of a Senator I had.
I'm not being singled out, it's just what the youth around here are like.
The only one that hasn't been damaged is a BMW I put on the road a couple of weeks ago, but I'm now waiting for a door mirror or bonnet and boot badges to be wrenched off.
An electric ariel is a must around here, otherwise you wake up to find the mast either laying on the ground or the wing.

Know what you're going through, Tetley

I had the unfortunate job of finding my '202 vandalised last year, some lowlife piece of fungus decided it would be a good idea to dig a sharp tool into my rear nearside door and scrape it all the way along the front door, over the wing and scrawl on the bonnet. Made me feel physically sick.

Don't let them win, ever - that proud star is only £15-20 to replace.

Yep, I know, but I may as well stand in the road, wait for them to come along and give them 15 - 20 quid.

Well if you want to hang around waiting for them forget the £20 give em a right good kick in instead, I would.

No more than 5 blows to the head though as its classed as attempted murder if you do. Push him over and stumble with him as he goes down and stamp on his right hand as hard as you can. Then you tell the police it was an accident we walked into each other, he fell I tried to catch him, I stumbled, I fell etc etc.

If only I could catch them. I wouldn't be responsible for my actions....

I'm going to hunt the advert out now to try and help but i have seen in one of my merc mags a regular stick up badge that is magnetic. it has a part which goes in the bonnet like the regualr one but the bit on top of the bonnet is magnetic so you can take it off when you go home. sounds like a good i dea to me.

Tetley,

Having spent some time pondering this - I got to thinking of ways to modify or otherwise safeguard it.

Grab yourself another star and cut it where the stalk meets the swivel mechanism, grind the stalk flat and tap an M4 blind hole in it. Then, make a stainless threaded bush and fit that into the bit that's left. the upshot of all this is the star portion will be removeable and leave nothing for the lowlifes to target. Now this all sounds pretty labour intensive, no problem for me to do as I have access to a fully equipped machine shop. Just an idea if you can't source the takeaway one on e-bay.

D'you know, I've been thinking along those same lines, but I've not been able to fathom something out.
If you could make one, I'll have it. You never know, it could be the start of something big for you. I know a few Merc owners who have had badges stolen.
I've just got a nasty hole in the top of my grille at the moment, but I'm buggered if I'm going to put another standard badge in there for the little so and so's to play with.
