The carpeting on the driver's side scuff plate (that half-plastic,half carpet covered piece under the door) of my 1997 SL 500 needs to be replaced. The problem is, my manuals (one on disc and one on the internet by Autozone) show only one screw retaining this piece, and its removal and others I can see does not enable removal. Are there clips on the underside of this piece adhering it to the body? For fear of damage, I hesitate to pry up on this piece to see if that frees it. My manuals indicate that no preparatory work is required other than exposing screws on the inside of the car. Any help?

Most have bayonet/pop type plastic clips which push down into the door sill. Careful prising can remove them.
If any break it is possible to just obtain the clips, both from MB nd Hellfrauds.

Many thanks, brandwooddixon. I shall proceed without fear of damaging a Mercedes part, all of which we know are expensive.
