I have a F-reg SE300 in the old shape, I have lost the keys and had the merc dealer to get me another key made, which worked only for doors as the ignition barrel has a different key to the door.

It seem it was changed at sometime of its life.

As some may know the ignition barrel is one whole piece and needs cutting or/and drilling.

But a mechanic has told me that merc at one time made a key blade, which breaks the pins in the ignition barrel and also allows you to take the old barrel out with ease. Therefore allowing you to change or allowing me to use my car door key instead to start the merc.

I deffo am not telling you lot where my car is parked! lol:roll:

As merc do not make these blades no more they are hard to find, maybe impossible!

The point of this topic is has anyone come across this blade so i can buy it for my car or does anyone have an alterantive, which is cheap and effective.

or any other sugestion please?

All post will be most appriciated, thank you!

Thank you for your response Beejay and Television,

Beejay the link for the blade like you said isnt what i'm looking for as the link you given me looks like a key. My key doesnt look like that so I expect its for the model above mine but thanks for the post.

Television it is a 1988 and looking at the log book se300 chassis starts with - wdb126024

so i expect it is a w126.

What you think?

Thanks guys!

Sometimes I have to go and do some work, so at times I am away.

Re the Key this could be a little more difficult, you cant get a key if the barrel is incorrect as recorded for the car.

You can order the correct barrel from MB and they are easy to fit. you do not drill them out

ok then i know the barrel is £50 from the MB but the barrel is in the dash rather than the steering rack!

A car lock smith and me old mechinic reacon it need drilling or cutting.

so if you can give me a run down on how to replace the barrel then i would be most greatful.

Thanks television for the effect of researching on my behalf!

They do not have to be drilled out as you can see in the diagram, I will put up more info later in the day
