Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, new to W124's and new to car DIY.

Just bought a 1989 230CE as an introduction to the range. The seatbelt extenders worked for a while, then have just stopped working. They don't extend when I turn the ignition on.

As advised on one thread, I've tried to pull them out manually to re-set them, but they won't move at all - with or without ignition on. How hard do I have to pull?

If it's a fuse, switch or relay, would really appreciate help in locating them.

Many thanks

There are micro switches that can fail in each end of the arm, the control units are behind the trim in C pillar each side

Check the door switch first though. It will only take a couple of seconds. If the interior light is working properly, just swap it with that, they're the same.

Door switch is the most common problem, if you remove the switch they come apart easily and the the pins inside can be cleaned.

Thanks everyone for your help.

How do I remove the door switches - do they just pull off?

As for the micro-switches behind the trim, how do I get to them and what do they look like?

Thanks

Ray

They should just pull out, maybe 1 screw

Leave the rest for now it should be just those door switches

Hi all,

I've tried swapping the interior light door switch with the other. Both switches are working, but no joy with the extender. Contacts were clean, but gave them a rub anyway. Still no joy. Only thing left is that there is some tape binding two wires together - see pic. Is that worth unravelling or would I be barking up the wrong tree?

If it's not the door switches, where should I look next?

Thanks

not just seatbelt extender....

I have a 88 300ce with a similar problem. The driver side extender works on occasion. I think the problem is with the module that controls the electronic of the extender. (No power coming from the output side) But I can not find a replacement part online. Does anyone have an idea as to where I might find one? Thanks. Rinehart

Seat belt extenders

I have the same problem with the lack of extenders . . . extending. The shop says the problem is probably the Micro Switches. The catch 22 is that they say you cannot replace the Micra Switches without replacing the entire Extender Arm at cost of $600.00 plus labor of $200.00 (USD).
I don't believe that the switches are not replaceable.
Any thoughts or advice???

Micro switches can be cleaned successfully, they can also be replaced , I have changed loads of them by drilling off the heads, and 99% are standard Omron made

micro switches

Thanks Malcolm for the advice. Are the Switches available at Radio Shack? What is the Ohm rating? Thanks in advance for your wisdom. Rinehart
