SEC corrosion - Corrosion in parcel  shelf of sec coupe

Recent great article on buying SEC coupe highlighted problem of corrosion in double skin panel of parcel shelf.
My SEC has this corrosion starting but not yet serious.
Where does this water come from ? Is it condensation, leaks round rear screen, sunroof drain, boot chanel.
If I can stop it now I will save major work later.
Anyone dealt with this as a diy repair ?

SEC corrosion

This corrosion needs to be treated very quickly as this is by no means a diy job to replace the panel. The rear screen needs removal for a start.

The water usually comes from the rear screen, but this needs to be checked out

SEC corrosion

I previously had an 84 SEC with this problem & I would seriously advise you to get this problem rectified ASAP by a genuine expert. I consider dampness/condensation in the boot as an Achilles heel of the W126 models.
Before I bought my current 88 SEL I climbed in the boot to see underneath the rear parcel shelf properly despite what the seller thought about my acrobatics.
I would also recommend that anyone who wants one of these cars to do the same.
You'll look silly whilst doing it but you'll love yourself for it afterwards.
