Hi Everybody-
in my endeavor to fulfill a long time dream I am looking to adopt a SEC preferably 88/89 onwards and ideally in a dark blue or black. 500 but preferably 560.

Looking for complete service history (indy's ok) and fairly original features - no pimped ones please! Mild cosmetic scuffs etc are ok, as is a bit of rust, but not rotting rear windscreens or 3 year gaps in service history (as I have seen on 6 out of the 8 cars I have viewed).
Basically it has to be tidy, as my wife cannot understand why I would want one of these when I can drive her clk on the weekends!:-?

I wait with cash and crossed fingers!

Regards,

Francesco

Good question.........

I have seen 8 cars now, all at different prices and I honestly cant say that some of them lived up to their price tag. There seems to be a big discrepancy between dealers etc. In my mind I had a budget of about £5K max I have seen a car at £12K, and one at £9K, and tbh, they were not more than £500 better than 2 I have seen (and driven) at £3.5 and £4K respectively.

So....... thats kinda where I am up to, but advice/opinions/observations are always welcome as I am a newbie at used cars .

Specialist dealers will always be asking a premium for a tidy SEC so I would be inclined to look for a private sale. Remeber to check the jacking points as they are a good sign as to the condition of the underside on the whole. Some cars that may look rust free on the surface can be in a sorry state underneath.

My father had one of those back in the late 80's (560 SEC).

Check for rust and water leaks in the boot.

Rust around botton of doors and seals.

If well taken care of, these engines will outlive most of us!

Good luck.
