Secondary Air Injection System

Can someone please tell me if this system ever activates other than to boost fuel burn on a cold start?

i.e. does it operate at high revs (4000+) to aid/boost fuel burn?

Not sure about the ML but I've got a CLK 230Kompressor and I've been told that the secondary air injection system DOES work whilst warmed up and running...its not just for cold start emissions.
