Anyone had a bad result with this technique?

I have a very small (not very obvious) surface ding in the driver's side door of my SLK obviously caused by someone opening their door into my car. This happened despite parking at the end of a row at the far reaches of a car park (obviously not far enough)! Paintwork is intact.

The problem is that it's practically on the edge of the door. Does this rule out a conventional PDR technique? Is it best left alone?

Thanks for any tips

If the mark or dent is near the edge one cannot use this technque, the door skin is rolled on to the the door frame and no access. Yes it hurts but as time passes by, the pain will ease, until you wash the car, that is.

Hi Malcolm

What, therefore, is the solution to stu99's problem? What is the DPR technique stu99 mentions?

How are small dents and dings removed from body panels these days? I'm familiar with the hammer and dolly technique but has there been any improvents in dent removal techniques in the past umpteen decades?

The pain does diminish with time but because I tend to keep cars a long time (last car was 17 years) I don't want to endure the weekly reminder every time I wash my car. I must have the damage repaired, hence my interest in modern repair techniques.

REGARDS Phil

PDR requires access to the rear of the dent, using all kinds of wierd tools to manipulate the dent out.

There's another breed of repairers called SMART (Small-Medium-Area-Repair-Techniques) who will do paint etc. I'm thinking of trying a local one to repair my daughter's metallic black Seat Ibiza after a firework came down on the bonnet. The dent is almost invisible (didn't see it until a week ago) but it's kind of burst open the paint along a body crease an inch or so away from the impact, so it can't be left.

Here's a SMART repairer web site - I know *nothing* about this company, simply found it on a Google search: http://www.oopsltd.co.uk/index.htm

And that's why I love to visit forums. I have been involved with the car industry in one form or another since leaving school and was going to try to advise after seeing the post. And hey presto - A man that can. Post that picture, you can't get a better offer than this. ;)
