Hi all,

I have just purchased a 2006 06 model CLS 320 CDI from an auction. The car is in very good condition however it has some fresh water damage and I''m therefore looking for a mechanic/electrition that specialises in Mercedes to take a look at it as the car does not start.

If anyone can help then please get in touch by e-mail to hussain154@hotmail.com or mobile 07790010587.

Thanks

Mr Hussain

Depending on what level of 'fresh water damage' has occured, let's hope the engine didn't ingest any water as you could be looking at piston/con-rod damage, amongst other things, if it did.

I think you might have no choice but to take it into a MB dealership for a full diagnosis on their equipment, the damage to control units (and possibly engine) could range from minor to extensive and whatever is needed is likely to require 'coding' to the car.

Smart + others :)
we repaired an S class with water damage, a guy had it "valeted" with what seemed to be a steam cleaner? All contol units under rear seat, sams ets, srs contol unit, but the worst of it was most of the connectors under the carpet started to corroded. One hell of a job to fix as one minute it was ok, the next things didn't work. :(

can see light at the end of the tunnel now!!!

Hey all, just thought id provide you with a quick update, dried the car out with a de-humidifier and used a RAC battery charger to charge the battery (as the battery was completly flat) now all power and electrics are working i.e key fob, comand centre, sunroof, Windows, AC etc.. however when turned fully the car will not strart i do get an error message "dispaly faulty visit work shop" and on the 2nd turn with the key fob the engine warning light stays on

In the manual this could be an issue with the coolant tempreture guage, rev counter or cruise control or speed tronic display.

am just waiting to fully dry it out which i suspect may be another day at least then i probably will take this to MB Tech (warrington).

Thanks again 2 everyone for their comments advise/intrests... Keep it coming.

Problem with flood damage is that 6/12/18 months down the line after everything has been fixed more problems often arise due to continued corrision inside electronic components , which is why seemingly perfect cars are often classified as CAT C rather than just CAT D and if the car has had salt water flooding then it gets alot worse .

And if the water is flood water then the bacteria and can cause some very unpleasant diseases indeed.

Ford used to supply their flood damaged cars to film companies in the US for movie purposes.

Hello,
I bought a C230 from a Japanese auction which was also described as "fresh water damage". I spent till now 2,000 EUROS and it is o.k. Water was ingested by the engine, they tried to crank it in Japan but the pistons were full as well so they tared apart one of the connecting rods. I "opened" the engine and replaced the broken con rod, now drives like new.
