selecting the gears on Auto Gearbox E320 N reg

Hi, I have an N reg Mercedes E320 Elegance. But recently its having trouble selecting what gear it wants. It pulls away fine and doesnt do it at about 80mph just between 30-70mph. Any ideas? Someone said to get it serviced as that might clear it does anyone think that will work or am i looking at loads of money?

You can have the oil level checked and maybe a oil and filter change for the gearbox. It could well be a knackered gearbox unfortunately.

the age of the car it would do no harm to do or have the gearbox oil +fillter replaced its not a big job

Dont waste money on something that might not fix it !!!!! I put £40 worth of Benz AutoBox fuid and a new filter at £20 odd quid only to have to do the whole lot again when i got the box reconditioned 6mths later.

Firstly Get a proper diagnosis The Old Boxes on mercs aren't all electronic and sometimes clearing a vacuum pipe / sensor switch is all that is required.

I would ask the l nearest Independant Merc Specialist...... who do they send their boxes to for recondition.

Then Ring them up and ask them whose best to Diagnose the fault

you must have:

Someone who has specialist knowledge of Auto gearboxes

Someone who has knowledge of Merc Gearboxes of that Era

They qualify on both counts

Always get as much information and facts first to minimise the wastage of the Resource Money i have found it is a limited resource whereas knowledge is not
