I was told by the parts guys that the insert is there to reduce/control flow through the pipes and to reinforce against the pressure.

As for somebody else seeing an opportunity to make after market pipes I doubt it, by the time you have set up the tooling etc to make parts that need replacing on average every 150k on cars which are very often dealer or specialist maintained and cost less than £25 the pair direct from Mercedes :)

Hi,
I have just had my TD250 pipes sorted. To replace them in total is very tricky and they only seem to corrode by the bends at the bottom. So you need a length of quarter inch diameter copper hydraulic pipe and two quarter inch to 6mm adapters. Simly replace the corroded bit with copper and they never corrode again. This was done with the help of Damas near Bolsover in Derbyshire. Hope this helps

ahh, good old Damas, if only they were slightly closer...

I'm going to give them a ring now and see if they can help me with the same problem...
