280 TE with murky hydraulic fluid - I reckon the seal in the pump has perished allowing engine oil in. Is it an easy job to replace the hydraulic pump seal and is there an easy way to drain the existing fluid?

I would be surprised if engine oil is getting into the hydraulic system. There is far greater pressure inside the pump so if there was a hole I'm sure that hydraulic fluid would be pumped into the engine rather than the other way round. I wouldn't recommend taking the pump apart. My 230TE the one before that and the 240TD before that all had merky hydraulic fluid in the reservoir but none used engine oil.

If you are intent on dismantling the pump then remember that as well as the two 13mm hex nuts holding the pump to the cylinder head the allen key bolt at about the 5 o'clock position also goes right through the pump and into the cylinder head.
