Evening. I noticed the hydraulic suspension res is slightly low. An inch below the min at rest with engine off.

What is the correct fluid to top up with and should the car be running or not when checked?

If you do not get a sensible answer, I will look up exact details.

Thanks Malcolm.

I have gleaned this info.

Citroën quickly realized that standard brake fluid was not ideally suited to high pressure hydraulics. They invented a new, green fluid, LHM. LHM stands for Liquide Hydraulique Minéral and is a mineral oil, quite close to automatic transmission fluid. Mineral oil is not hygroscopic (ie will not absorb water from the air) unlike standard brake fluid, so therefore gas bubbles do not form in the system, as used to be the case with standard brake fluid, creating a 'sprongy' brake feel. Use of mineral oil has thus spread beyond Citroën, Rolls-Royce, Peugeot, and Mercedes-Benz, to include Jaguar, Audi, and BMW.
Like this?

FERODO LHM - MINERAL BASED
A high quality product specifically formulated for Citroen and other vehicles which require a mineral oil based fluid for braking, suspension and central hydraulic systems.

# High 240 C boiling point
# Non water absorbing
# Outstanding corrosion resistance
# Ideal for centrally pumped hydraulic system
# Wide temperature range

It's green anyway?

On the top of the resovoir cap is a sticker ( possibly yellow ) with a part number written on it. I think it ends in 21 03, 24 03 or 88 03, this is the part number of the oil used ( if you buy it from MB ).

it's £10 a litre from MB

but about £3.75 from GSF. be careful though, it's a bit different to the citroen one, so don't put that in as a stop gap

Sorry to sound daft here but where is the reservoir? for the self levelling suspension. After 3 years of ownership, I've only just realised our W210 has this feature. D'oh !!!!!

You lucky B'

Ok you have popped the hood right. ;)

Standing facing the car, on your far right is a big reservoir filled with dark green Mineral magic stuff.

Citreon invented this system and it was then used by MB, Bentley and the rest.

You should see heavy duty rubber hoses leading to and from it.

I say lucky because it was a rather pricey option. Is yours the 7 seat? Also an option. Again I'm lucky because all my seven seats are leather. :p

I'd assumed that was the PAS fluid rervoir

Yep - 7 seats, all leather :D

It's also an Elegance but with the sports chassis pack (I assume that means it has the Avantgarde suspension).

Thanks for the info ;)

Now that's where the similarities end. Mine's silver.

Phew,,, I thought mine had a clone.

Did you know Metallic paint cost £800 extra when new! On top of the £37,000 list price...

Look up your chassis number and check to see which options were ticked when ordered.

Funnily enough, that's how I first found out I had self levelling suspension. What a fool eh? Doesn't even know the features of his own car.

I think you will find you should check the level with engine running and at normal ambient temperature - this is the case with Citroens. Oil, like many fluids, expands in volume as it heats

Makes sense to me. Thanks fwb44.
