Hi. I had used semi synthetic engine oil from GSF on my w202 cdi at 150k.
Instead after every 10000 miles, I change the oil (semi sen) say after 5000 miles. What difference to engine shell it make? I do not want to compromise on engine performance. Your suggestions and recommendations please.

You are doing the right thing in looking after your engine. Changing the oil at that interval it would not be worth going over to fully synthetic, just do as you are doing :D

I agree wholeheartedly. In fact, changing the oil more regularly is better in some ways as the pollutants are removed more often. Just be sure to use a correct viscosity grade for your climate and usage.

Dear members,
I have been reading lots of posts about engine oil, my car is a W202,1995 C220 Diesel now covered 97,000 miles, I have always used mineral oil the best quality. I bought the car with 65,000 on the clock it has had new oil and filter on a basis of 5,000 miles regardless of use.

My question is this, would a change in oil from mineral to synthetic be advantageous in prolonging the engine life?, also would I need a different filter from the standard?. I would not like to do any damage to something that is not broken. This engine seems to go from strength to strength, over her short service length she never needs oil, and pulls like a train. she seems to get better all the time.

Fully synthetic is better than semi if you are going to leave it in for the full cycle, there is nothing better than a MB filter

I once attended a Mobil Exxon seminar and the rep actually said that as long as Mobil One is in the engine, it wont wear!!! Believe that if you will!!!

FS oil in my opinion, will undoubtably perform better than standard mineral oil and I think thats a proven fact. Comes down to pocket really.
