Sensors on rear view mirror

I am having a problem with the alarm on my C180 Sport. When i set the alarm using the remote the lights on my rear view mirror flash for about 1 min, where as before the red one flashed to tell me the alarm was on. The same happens when i unlock my car. When i used to unlock my car an then open a door of the car quite quick the alarm would sound for a few seconds but that doesn't even happen now. I have contacted my nearest dealer but have been told that they need to see it first which is £100 plus vat before they even find the fault.
I am hoping that someone will be able to give me some advice on this problem before i give in and go to the dealer.

Alarm Problems

I recently had problems with my CLK alarm.
The alarm not sounding as it used to and erattic behavior with the LEDs are very similar symptoms to my experience.
I visited the dealer and was told that 90-95% of problems with the system were the alarm klaxon which is fitted behind the panel in the front wheel arch.
Lots of muck/water etc gets behind the panel and causes earth faults etc etc.
The remedy was simple a new klaxon, tidy up the wiring, all done by a main Merc dealer in Bristol for £130 including labour!

Thanks for that bit of info, i have a feeling that my alarm isnt behind the wheel arch but is situated in the bonet (i may be wrong with being a women and dont know alot about cars either).
Will keep trying and hopefully i will be able to sort the problem out.
