That is an absolutely crazy price for a B service !...What have they done ???

Surely they must have spoken to you prior to getting additional work done on the car ??

Hello

Sorry to hear your having issues, but this is exactly the reason my wifes car and mine goes to an Indy. You have to decide IS the fact it has a FMSH worth 'that' much more than a FSH...

The A class they wanted nearly £700 for a years warranty, and Getting close to £800 for a service (it needed brake fluid, spark plugs, air filters.....what does a service include?? the basic service was aprrox £450 then everything was extra)

So close on £1500 to keep the merc service on a car worth say 6K ???? no one will pay us more when we sell it. The labour rates just doesn't make sence once the cars value is lower. Its the same labour to service our little A class than it is for a new CL63...

I also believe rightly or wrongly the specialists actually 'care' a little more than the main garages. Don't get me wrong buying a car they are as nice as pie...but once you have it....

As for brakes again the wifes needs pads and discs, I can only shake at what merc would charge...I bought them from Merc though as they were supprisingly cheap (they are groved and slotted, the pads, sensor and discs for front £130)

Hope you get the car back and sorted, if I were you find a good indy and pop some money in a repair fund if needed. Thats what I do :) :)

PS, mines in for an MOT tomorrow......watch this space

If for certain reasons you wish to mantain the MB service history, the trick is to get all the work done apart from the oil / filter change by a good Indy prior to sending it into Mercedes for the A or B service.

That way you can cut down the bills in a big way.

There is something that you can do. Garages are not allowed to fit or replace anything without asking.

This is the most common complaint in the trade.

You can report them to trading standards and they must take off the pieces that were fitted, at no cost to you.

You cant lose on this one

I fully agree with the above. My E was serviced at an indie when it was 1 1/2, never mind 7 years old. A bill like that is heavy but it's hard to comment when we don't know what was done. I would ask for an 'older car' discount though. You should get at leastt 10% and 30% isn't unheard of.
On the loan car front, I never book a car in unless there is a loaner available. It normally delays the appointment by a few days but I refuse to be left without a car. If I don't get mine back, they don't get theirs. When I was trawling up and down the motorways, I would also tell them that I was travelling so a smart or an A140 wouldn't cut it. They normally found me a C or E class. Again, it occasionally added a day or two to the delay but so what.
It's not just Merc, the land rover dealer lent me a top of the line Range Rover last month! (very nice but I wouldn't have wanted to fuel it for long!)

In the old days, the dealer used to transport them by low loader, so they'd come to my office, offload a new C180, pick up my C220 and take it away, only to return that evening and swap them back. On a few occasions I didn't even see the loan car, let alone drive it! But I knew it was there if I wanted it. Oh heady days.

Didn't catch where you were in the country, but my last B service at a London dealer was £420. Even the local indie here in Richmond charges £395. I presume the £1,071 included the rear brake work as well though ?? A recent change of all 4 pads and discs on my C180 was £760 (so take roughly half for just the rears). So that would get you up towards the 800 quid territory .... the rest, well ....
