Just went out a few minutes ago. Nice little run to see a client, just playing around really.

Anyway, get home and put car in garage. Switch off and the magic *ping*

One Malfunction: "Service Brake Visit Workshop"

So after making a brew (and cursing loudly) went back to car and thought I'll go and see MB Whitefield. No warnings, no malfunctions etc. Took it for a quick run round and still OK. Now parked up with no warnings showing.

Question is, if it did it once will it do it again? Should I book it in (wasting half a day) and ask them to check/read the fault, or just *let it develop*?

I was supposed to be away this week but had to put it off as I'm busy with other jobs, so I'm home for another few days now, but really must have it right for a week on Monday.

nice 201 2.5D 1993 & very nice 129 SL500 1994
Check the pads for wear/thickness, the small plastic housed units make metal to metal contact as the pads wear, they can be intermittent as the wear starts to develop into being significant

I am not sure about some of the malfunctions that come up, I get the odd silly one that never comes back

Pads good, no noticeable wear, certainly not enough to get a sensor in contact.

So you think let it develop then Malcolm? That's my initial reaction. Just been out to it again, played hard on the brakes and nothing.

I would be tempted to leave it, however it does depend on what you have planned journey wise. Depending upon how friendly you are with your dealer you could get them to plug it in and see what fault (if anything) is stored. I've done that a couple of times with my previous E when I had intermittent warnings. I wasn't charged on either occasion.

Yes it is hardly an item of that much importance, Blobcat feels the same when or if it is doing all of the time, think about it then

Thanks for the responses.

I've only just changed dealers, so not exactly on first name terms :(
As for the journey, it's only to the airport, where the car will spend a couple of weeks, but don't need letting down that time in the morning. (6.30 AM flight from N Wales = 5.30 leave home :( )
I'll give it a run next week and confirm it's OK.

T212 facelift, 2013. A few toys including pan roof, 19" rims, Harmon Kardon, nappa, privacy glass.
My 2001 W210 did this once. I had the usual dread of "whats this gonna cost me ?", but as others, when braving enough to return the the vehicle it had gone and never reappeared (four months ago now).

I have come to the conlcusion that if a warning comesup once, turn off the engine and restart. If it does not reappear....don't worry - this is of course assuming there are no noises / smoke to back up the warning !!

which car is it on, if its the 211, common problem is the brake pump system, normally charge time is too long, i think MB had a recall on this item. normally worn pads come up with pad wear?

W211 E55, but had all recalls done on SBC system so *should* be OK?

how's your brake fluid level ?

Bang on the mark.... Just been changed on last service too.

It hasn't happened since, so I'll just keep an eye on it.

I won't be using it for the next few days, so next time it goes anywhere I'll just monitor it.

There is not a big difference in the price these days. Anything from Mintex that is TMD friction are OE to MB, ask your local factor what they sell. you could save £50 if you are doing all 4

I have never had a complaint from after market disc or pads.

I use EBC pads to keep the wheels clean
