Service C in 30 days

This message came up today. Last week when I checked it said service in 6000 miles. Is there an 18 month time limit? Car E280 petrol bought new in March 2006.

I hear about service A/B but not C.

Surrounded by Inchcape Mercedes dealers here in Oxfordshire. Haven't heard a good report about any of them. Should I travel to the Sytner garage in Swindon?

Any thoughts on above welcome.

I'm not totally au fait with MB servicing but I do know that services don't run concurrently - i.e, they can jump from a C service back to a B then on to a K..... It's the car and model that dictates which service it requires depending on how it's driven etc..... apparently! Well - that's what my dealership told me when my car hadn't had a service at all and went straight on to a C service! I wanted to know what had happened to A & B.....:)

Yes, I believe that the Assyst system switches from milage remaining into time mode at 18 months. My CLK did this, with "6000 miles remaining" one day the "visit workshop" the next. I'm expecting the same thing when I hit 3 years next week.

Thanks for that confirmation Dave. Seems to me that MB have made these cars much too complicated. What was wrong with 12,000 miles or twelve months?

Everyone understood that.

I suppose Mercedes think that the running gear could use a check over at 18 months to check for kerbing damage, tyre cuts and the like and if the driver isn't 'car aware' then I suppose they're about right. Then they might as well do a service, even though the Assyst wasn't quite calling for one just yet.

IIRC the "C service" includes extras like new plugs, air/pollen filters, brake fluid change and being the C, it comes up at least every 3 years. :rolleyes: Mine had just been done before I bought the car and it's the "A service" this time round. 3k and counting down.

The display is irrelevent to a dealer as they use the ESS system. (Electronic Service Sheet) that works out what it needs by looking at the milage and age etc.

Sounds right. I haven't had the service yet but it is only scheduled to take one hour. So just an oil change and tyre kicking exercise. Charges inline with 'luxury motoring' and expensive establishments to maintain.
