Hi there,

Does anyone know how I can get information on my 1994 C200 service history? Bought it in June this year, but it did not come with a service book or manual.
The MB dealer where it was bought back in 1994 has since changed to selling Suzuki and Proton (yes, Proton!!!!)
I rang them and although they were accomodating, they could not help me as the computer which held all their MB records has now been scrapped. The dealer who took over the MB dealership runs a different system.
I know the car has been regularly serviced, but I would like to see the service history in black and white just for peace of mind.

Any help would be appreciated,

Cheers
Johnny

I would have thought that with your vin & registration No. any MB garage should be able to pull out the info on what servicing/warranty work has been done at a MB garage.
It doesn't sound as if the Mb garage you tried has bee particularly helpful.

I'd say the same, MBUK should be able to go back a way. However, chances are that at that age, any recent and therefore relevant history would have been outside the approved network. When buying cars of unknown origin, I just assume the worst and have it thoroughly gone through by someone I trust. So assuming auto, get the gearbox oil and filters done and generally give it a major service inc an oil flush, that way you what's been done.
My '95 C220 has a book and it's been stamped and have fmbsh until 2001 but since then, it hasn't been near a dealer so whilst I know that stamps are genuine, no one else would be able to prove it.

What would be a reasonable price to pay for this? There is a MB dealer and also a MB indie specialist near me.

Thanks

Forget the dealer. Apart from the £100 per hour labour charges, how many 1994 C classes do their mechanics see? 2 a year I'd imagine. Sure, he could tell you what goes wrong on 2 year old ones, but your local back street grease monkey is likely to be more experienced on 12 year old mercs than your dealer. Your indie however, will be an expert.

I would have thought for the gearbox (at the indie) you'd be looking at £75-£100, maybe less, but you want them to do a full inspection too. They may dip the box and tell you it's ok, but an experienced eye across the car as a whole is priceless.
