I always like to use genuine parts but have been told you can get genuine filters etc from other sources than mb, does anyone have any knowledge they would like to share. I am only using filters as an intrim oil and filter change between mb services.

You maybe surprised at the price of parts from MB as they can be quite competitive. Also if you join the MBOA you can get discount at many of the dealers. Twice at my dealers they said they don't give discount, I showed them that they do (listed in the magazine) then both times had 10% discount on parts and labour. I forgot to show them the fine print where they only give 5%

Since Block exemption we are now finding out who makes what for MB and soon I hope to put up a list of who makes what parts and the models they fit.
When it comes to filters, you are better off for now with the genuine article untl we know who makes them.

cheers, do mb dealers charge the same price or like my local vw dealer do they vary, what are ball park figures for oil and fuel filters for e220 cdi 2001.
I saw a thread the other day about service intervals and since I picked the car up it has gone from 11k to 12k for next service in 200 miles. Helps to make up for the brain dead who have kicked several dints in my new pride and joy in less than a week.

i get alot of my parts from GERMAN/SWEEDISH/FRENCH thurrock essex...many parts are genuine mb but all parts i have purchaced in the past have been very good quality

Thanks for your replies it is much appreciated, called at md dealer and was gob smacked only £8 plus change for gen filter and they threw in a new sump bung washer (nice man) and then tried to sell me a roof mounted dvd for £600 fitted mmm. I will investigate the other options when I have more time.
