Hey all,
I have a C300 which was new March 2020, its had its first service but after arranging for the car to be booked in for a recall matter, the guy asked about service plans.

Usually i do around 20k -25K miles per year, so the car will need a few services while i have it, the question is...is it worth doing the service plan or just paying as i go?

For a 4 service plan...which is now B A B A they quoted £1920, saying that the next service will be £624, the first service which has been done was around the £420 mark...
on this basis is only slightly cheaper to do it with the plan. what's your thoughts??
there was an option of 48 monthly payments interest free, but i doubt i will have the car in 4 years.

just to point out this is a company vehicle and although i pay the bills i claim it all back from my company so it does'nt affect me financially....just looking to see if its worth it before i mention this to the MD of the company.

A service plan sounds a good idea for your situation. It will cover additional items like ATF change/plugs? (petrol?) brake fluid changes etc that will occur during the first 3-4 years of ownership. I'd consider a 3 year plan covering a B/A/B then pay for the cheaper following A service as a stand alone.

I have a service plan on my E63 and its £1500 for 3 services. The first one would have been over £800 had I paid for it individually.

I have done the same on both of our cars. Pay for the A service if it comes first so you get the BAB sequence

You should also get it on interest free monthly instalments, just sign your employer up for the payments?

Personally, if it is a company car and you claim everything back, I'd just let the company pay as and when. For my own car, I have just taken out a new three year plan after the two years free they gave me when I bought it - but then I’m paying my own bills!

id want to know exactly what was supposed to get replaced in each service plus I'm pretty sure an MB indy could do any of the services a good bit cheaper then mainstealer anyway so why not just go that route ?

If it works out cheaper the get it, regardless who pays for it. Your emplyoyer pays you so nothing wrong with saving them a fee quid.

Also don't be shy in asking the dealer for a discount.

It still sounds a lot of money for a few gallons of oil, a few filters & a bloke with a tick sheet

My MB dealer has been very persistent in trying to sell me a service plan, but he couldn't convince me that I'd save a significant amount. He worked out that a three year plan would save me about £40 for standard no extras services over the next three years, only rampant inflation would make the plan a better buy than paying for each service as it came due. I only do a small mileage, especially at the moment with foreign travel barred, and I'm unlikely to keep the car too long after the warranty expires. Also, I have a very good nearby independent I've used in the past, and would probably go to them post warranty. They specialise in Porsche and Ferrari, but are just as happy to do services etc on my wife's ultra low mileage shopping trolley Citroën C2. They employ skilled mechanics, and are really nice people as well, Hughes Workshops is the name if anyone in the south Dorset area needs a really good independent garage, remarkably inexpensive too.

Sold - 2021 CLA 35 Premium.
My cars first service is due at the end of June and I am glad I took out a 2 service plan soon after buying it. With the 20% promotional discount it corst me £576.
I am planning to ask how much this service costs before I mention I have a service plan. In fact I will not be mentioning it at all until after my service has been carried out if they dont ask me. :p
I never completely trust main dealer servicing because heard too many negative things, so I always look at things like the oil filter for example prior to taking the car in. I will need to find out where it is located on my engine. :geek:

Speak to MB UK, I don’t believe the dealer has much to do with it. I took out my 2nd 3 year plan last year while MB were offering a discount ~£1400 for services 4,5&6.

Check out Star Tech on the Creekmore Industrial estate next to Makro Rob.
Very good Mercedes indy with ex main dealers techs.

Richard Hamilton in Corfe Mullen is very good too. Excellent labour rate at £50ph.

Don’t forget that you get free Mobilo if you car is serviced at MB so if you already had RAC, AA, Green Flag, etc you can save on those costs.

Mobilo is very good and worth it. the package is more substantial than you get from aa and green flag especially the newer mobilo

but I'm sure you'd save far more than the cost of AA or RAC if you have your car serviced at a good independent rather than main dealer servicing.

but even if I did have Mobilo, it wouldn't give me the same cover as May Day should the break down be because of my caravan rather than the car. ;)

I was given the hard sell for a service plan from a MB dealer even though i have an older car but when i did the maths i was not worth it as i get the service parts myself , not need air filters as have K&N air filters,i buy a K&N oil filter, i buy the cabin filters from MB and change the charcoal filters when needed , oil i get a bit of discount when i buy Mobil 1 at halfords and the Bosch plugs every 30.000 miles and i just pay labour for sevice and A/C system check and regas if needed and they stamp my service book which is a new MB one i got off amazon
