My warranty ran out in August 2006 and I decided to get service plus for my E320. The service plus kicked in in November after the three month period. 2 days ago my brake wear light came on and Mercedes replaced all my pads and discs (best part of £1000 I was told). Still got my D service and MOT to come in the year. I'm lovin it.

same here. Just had all pads and front disks replaced. It's in tomorrow for a B service and an MOT as well as a bunch of other things. Just flash the card and it's like having a company car all over again. I'll let you know how they react to the other problems. None of them are of my making so I believe they should all be covered. I'll let you know how I get on.

04 C270 Est coming up to 3 years in Feb with full MBSH

How much did your Sevice Plus cost?
I suppose I first need to make sure that all is ok with the car at 3 years old?
Will probably do 8/10K a year so will it be good value!
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

I pay just over £70 per month based on 20,000 miles. This covers all servicing and wear and tear items. For about an extra £20 per month you can add tyres to that too.

In the time period for me that is 1 x A service, 1 x B service, 1 x MOT. Plus I have also had all the brake pads replaced and the front disks.

They need to do an inspection first, which takes about 2 hours and if they find any defect you need to get them resolved at your expense. You also can't claim for the first 3000 miles of 3 months.

Some garages charge for the inspection, some don't. Tony Purslow in Guildford do not. Look at it this way, if you get the inspection but don't go ahead you at least get a free health check on your car.;)

You only need inspection if the 3 year guarantee is over. I just got a quote for my 1 year old S320cdi to run to the 6th anniversary of first registration (or 120,000 miles whichever is the sooner) doing 12k miles per annum and they wanted £62 per month plus vat. I thought that was great value given the price is fixed for 5 years hence! Haven't done it yet as it may pay to wait till guarantee nearly up. Hard to work it out.

I did find out that if you ever want to end the contract you can by paying 3 months payments (about £186 plus vat) or if you are selling the car, the new owner can take on the contract at your monthly price. Good deal.

well the nice people from Tony Purlsow (careful Stumpy) just bought my car back all nice and shiney. It was in for a B service and a bunch of other things. I have that nice "no money changing hands" feeling again although I have found a problem with Service Plus. It's just a timing thing though.

As you may or may not be aware the changing of spark plugs is not included in a service, this is an extra. As the car has 12 of them it's quite expensive. TP have said it needs new plugs but wont replace them until the contracts department confirm that it is covered. Now I would have thought it was failry obvious but there you go. They also need to replace (and haven't) the air and fuel filters.

They are not quibling about doing this they just need authorisation first. This means the car will need to go back for the other parts which is a bit of a bugger. They have also found a problem with the cruise control, the radio reciever and the central locking system. All of which require parts that they don't stock. So they are going to let me know when the parts are in stock and have the car back in again and do the lot.

TP are fairly happy that all of this is covered but aren't prepared to do the work until they have confirmation from MB. Now, I'm not sure who is dragging their heels here but either way it's a bit anoying when they knew of all the problems in advance. Still I guess they needed to check the car out for themselves.

I'll let you know how it all goes when it goes back in for the rest of the job, but I wouldn't expect that to be until the new year now.

I don't follow the "not included in a service, this is an extra" bit - supplementary work is required at certain mileage and/or time intervals, so if your car is at those intervals then the work should be done?

Also the authorisation thing sounds ridiculous too - surely that's a quick phone call in exactly the same way a garage would call a leasing company's maintenance department.

Wow, i can get front and rear disk and pads for about £120. Ok it might take 2 hrs to fit but a tidy saving i would say!!!

£120 for 4 disks and 4 sets of brake pads? Really? Seems a little cheap (are they made by Chad Valley ?), but then £1000 seems a little expensive. Mind you that is an MB supply and fit charge and includes £95 p/h for the work so it doesn't really surprise me.

We are not all mechanically adept either. I have changed pads in the past but I'm too old for that kind of thing now. I'd much rather pay a bit (although not £880) more money and get someone else to do it.

I've got to be honest -I don't think the discs needed changing but it seems the dealer gets paid well under the service plus contract. Still it feels great to be 'one up' on mercedes.

works out at £304 inc vat for my car based on their figures. + fitting, that would be £500.

You are right though, can't beat Brembo

btw, thanks for the link. I've added it to my favourites.

Exactly. Genuine Mercedes parts are the best safeguard.

Rubbish, dont think i have ever fitted genuine disks to any car i have owned, that now over 20 cars including a Porsche.

Its not as if MB actaully make the disks, ATE or Brembo or some other will manufacture them.

Never had a problem, worse case might have to change them a bit more often. Lets say every 30k miles instead of 40k miles

It is not rubbish. Read more threads on several forums and you'll see plenty who've had bad problems with non-Mercedes parts. Of course Mercedes don't make all the parts but they do write the specification and check them.

The truth is that there are some good parts from other suppliers. And there are some bad ones. The difficulty is to KNOW what you are getting. And that is why buying genuine parts is the best safeguard.

GSF do sell all TMD brake parts, TMD are OE suppliers to MB, the only difference is the price,Divide by 2 and you have it,or buy one and get one free.

Over the weekend i will be fitting EBC green pads to my SL, I have used them for years.
