E300 TD 210, Does anyone know cost & where to get tools , need service tool 120- 589 -140700 (removal of viscous fan coupling) also counter holding tool (believe placed on water pump pulley to prevent rotation).
if you ask nicely, they'll sell you what you need. Or e-bay, or try a motor factors or engineering supply outlet. Then there's Sealey's, Machine Mart and screwfix to trawl through. Or pop down to your local reliable general garage, and see where they get theres from, ie Snap-on, Teng, Draper/Elora, or even Halford's own.
I too need to change the viscous coupling on my OM606 engine. My investigations have revealed that the only place to get the tools are from your local stealership. Mine will NOT sell them to me. I have tried other "local" dealerships but since they are all part of the same group, they have the same policy regarding tool sales.
The local independent garages either do not have the tools or will not "hire" them out. They are, however, fully understandably, quite happy to do the whole job.
Snap-On , Halfords, Sealys etc do not carry these parts.
I have been told that the only special tool absolutely required to do this job is the one to stop the water pump pulley rotating. The other special part is an 8mm (i think, may be 6mm) allen key on a 3/8 drive socket. (The type you can buy anywhere).
If you find anywhere to buy these tools I'd love to know.
