Can anyone tell me what MBs policy on servicing a used vehicle before selling it?

I've just bought a CLK 270CDI and it's telling me it's due a Service in 5900 miles - I was expecting to see at leat 15000 on there!

Is there a limit on this? ie because it's due a service in more than xxxx miles, they don't do one as a matter of course when prepping for resale?

There is a formally set out limit - probably 2k or so.
They have written rules for everything - tyre tread depths, service shedules etc - if it falls within, its done without question, if outside, you probably have a fight on your hands. They volunteered to replace the rear tyres when I bought mine but wouldn't budge on the fronts as they were outside (better than) their limits.

From the Mercedes website - Approved Used Programme

"Mercedes-Benz Approved Used cars will not require routine servicing at the customers expense for a minimum of 3,000 miles or 3 months from the date of sale (whichever period is sooner)"

I bet a slight tweak of the data on the ASSYST and all their used cars are outside the 3000 mile limit - just :)

I don't think they can actually do this - nice conspiracy theory though!

They know exactly what is due on a car before negotiating the deal so when I negotiated for my car there wasn't a lot of movement available. They knew they were in for a major service and 2 expensive tyres and clearly built that into the price. In your case they knew they didn't have to service it so had more to play with on the deal. Its all swings and roundabouts.

We had owned our Merc for 3 mths and 6 days when the first service was due and the dealership we bought the car from did eventually agree to pay for the first service, so it's always worth asking them if it needs doing close to the 3,000 miles or 3 months limit.
