Hi All,

Just had my 1998 E280 flash up that it is due a service in 600 miles :(

Although it would be nice to have a fully stamped service book, I intend to perform the services myself (with a bit of help from my Dad!) and keep evidence of the services (receipts, photos etc.) just to try and improve my DIY skills.

Am I correct in assuming that after the service the computer will need resetting? Does this need to be done with a STAR machine or is there a small tool to do the job? I remember my Dad had one for his BMW a few years ago. Would this tool (about 1/2 way down the page) do the job?

Also, is there a way of telling what service is due? It had one when I bought it in November and when I had the airbox off the other night the filter in there was brand new.

Many thanks,
SteveyT.

Hi,
Have you the owners handbook for the car? (the glove boxed sized one that is normally kept with the service history), as it tells you in there the procedure for reseting it.
If you have,nt got it post back and i,ll find it and post the solution from my handbook which "should" be the same.
Looking at your "jobs to do list" could i suggest adding auto box fluid and filter change and greasing the windscreen wiper motor linkage. If you look in the D.I.Y. section of the forum there are some excellent step-by-step guides that have been posted by other members covering these subjects.
When you are going to get your spare key do not be tempted by cheap keys off of
e-bay as they cannot be re-programmed to your car, the only option you have is Mercedes at £150 a pop.

Thanks for the reply. I will look through the handbook at some point today. Also thanks for the tips regarding the wiper motor and ATF.

Already have the key and went to MB for it. At least it looks a bit better than the old one for £150!!!
