Hi guys

What do the A B C service letters actually mean? I have tried looking in the handbook, which doesnt even mention them in those terms!
Our W211 E320CDi (2004) is due a C service soon, and I want to know what sort of price I should be looking at. Car has done 64,000 and it needs to be main dealer for warranty purposes.
Thanks!

The C doesn't really mean anything. Its simply A and B which alternate. My last one was a C+ which was basically an A.
The A is little more than an oil change and check over whereas the B is a bit more involved.
Additionally there are filters and various fluid changes that come up on a time basis. So its impossible to say how much your service will cost until they plug it in.
My C+ was £200 but I'd had all the filters done the previous service and gearbox oil, brake fluid and coolant changes weren't due yet. They then added on a wheel bearing adjustment @ £30 and a new set of brake pads & disks at £400 ish which I turned down. It will need doing eventuall but not for a few months yet.

Additionally the oil they use affects the cost and service interval. Semi synthetic is cheaper but gets you 9500 mile intervals. Fully synthetic is a bit more expensive but allows them to change the interval to 12500. You can supply your own oil which brings the price down quite a bit. They charge £16L for Mobil 1 and you can buy it for £10L at most accessory shops.

Call up a couple of local dealers, ask for a quote and then say "And what is that with a discount?".
That magic phrase is usually worth an additional 10-20% off. (That £200 started at £220)
