I am waiting for a new crankshaft vibration damper / harmonic balancer for my car. It is a 190E with 2.6 M103 engine. There is a little piece of metal like the tip of a pencil that sticks out the vibration damper disc and tiggers the TDC sensor. When I am putting on the new disc, I am presuming I should set the engine to TDC and line up the disc with the TDC sensor.

Will it be a case of turning the crankshaft to the TDC mark (O/T mark) in Haynes, lining it up with the edge of the sensor. Then lining up the pencil tip part of the damper disc directly in line with the TDC sensor?

Hope this make sense. Anybody rebuilt a merc engine and knows how to do this?

Turns out the old damper disc on my car has split into two parts making it ultra confusing. I did not realise until I got the new disc today. The hard bit is that the old part of the disc held on by the pulley bolts seems to have virtually welded itself to the hub so I may have to take the crankshaft hub off too. Any ideas as to why damper disc is stuck to hub? And any tips on how to remove?

I have figured out the timing and how to set it up with the new disc.
