Several New Guy Questions

So, this is unfamiliar territory for me. I am used to being a major contributor to forums like this but having never owned a Mercedes in nearly 30 years of driving all I have is questions!

2002 CLK 320 Cabriolet auto.

Firstly which model number is this car? W....

I struggled with what I thought was cruise control this morning. Seems it is a speed limiter which is a different animal. I found I could restrict the top speed but couldn't take my foot off the accelerator and have the car cruise at a set speed. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong?

The car is fitted with 18 inch alloys whereas all the other CLK's I looked at had 16 or 17 inch wheels. Were the 18 inch ones an option for this model from new?

It has a blue soft top. What would be the best product to keep it clean?

For model number you can check the front windscreen. It says in the left bottom side of it.

That speed limiter is the one for cruise control as well (atleast in my CLK), you have to move it up rather then push inside (the wee light switches on when the limiter is on by pressing inside). Also the cuise control works over certain speed. Think its 30 or 35 mph (says in handbook).

once you know the VIn number (from bottom of the front window) you can use it to see what options your car came with. Use the link below and enter the VIN number in this russian site - will tell u in english after you put in the VIn number.(sorry Malcolm! am stealing your russian website link :)).

Its a nice car though. hope you enjoy it.

Excellent thank you for the information. I was pushing the cruise control stalk as you point out! I do have the owners manual but it is so thick I haven't been able to read right thorugh it yet to familiarise myself.

Once you set the limiter (lamp on) moving the lever up or down varies the speed by 5MPH increments. Pushing or pulling the lever (away or towards you) changes it by 1MPH steps. Handy in Motorway roadworks when everyone is doing an indicated 52MPH.

You can also defeat it by flooring the throttle.

Hi Balal,

I will post some pictures when I have the car back from having the alloys refurbished and work out how to post some photographs on this site. Oh and I will need the sun to keep shining!
