My wife went over a big pothole that wasn't signed off and now every little bump in the road makes an awfull clanking noise. Will take the wheel off in the morning to have a look.

Front or back.

More likely to be a damage suspension component or spring. Drive carefully/ as little as poss until you have had a look.

She went into the mechanics about the clunking noise.he said that when my wife went into the pothole it seems she has disloged a shock absorber cover ?
Booked in for Monday morning but I am going to take the wheel off to have a look.
Does that sound feasible ?
Thanks

'Just taken the wheel off and had a look in the engine bay at the top of the shock bolts.
The bolts are tight then there is a metal (what I can only describe as a huge washer) then black rubber and then what looks like a cupped washer.
On the underside of the car the shock is bolted in place at the very bottom then you have the black shaft cover, then there is another cover that seems to move up and down and I can see the shinny metal shaft inside and there is a circlip then the shaft goes through the body into the engine bay.The nbit that is clanking seems to be the part inside the engine bay as even though the bolts are all tight the shaft that comes through the body is moving.
Sorry if all that sounds amaturish but I am no mechanic (will try things though).

Car booked in for Monday morning and I need to know is it safe to drive if a bit bouncy on that side and is it an easy fix or new shock ?
Thanks for the help so far.

Thanks, what I am not sure about is how to get it to stay in place. Will I have to unbolt the bottom of it and the top, take it out and start again ?
Any ideas ?
And does the circlip go underside of body or above in the engine bay side ?

You cannot take the shocks apart, the circlip will be part of it
