Hello

Newbie so go a bit easy pls..;)

I'm strongly considering buying a 2015 C400 with approx 90k miles on the clock, 2 owners. Full dealer history. I have a test drive planned on Saturday
Currently I own a 2012 C200 which has been faultless.
Now that I'm doing some serious research I'm getting a bit nervous especially in respect to the issues with the panoramic roof on the w205 models. I've also read a bit around costly cat issues which also surpised me.

These are my questions.

1) 90k on 2015 model. Is there anything that I should pay special attention to? Normally I've always bought in the 20-30k mileage range, so this is significantly higher for me, but for a V6 it shouldn't matter, right? This is not high mileage??!?
2) Is there any way of testing the sunroof for warning signs that it may have the rail issue?

Really appreciate any feedback.

I think you could safely say that if the roof was going to go, I assume you mean burst, it would have gone by now. Anyway the exploding roof problem is so minimal it certainly wouldn't concern me. When you think of how many are out there and there has only been two reported on here, if my memory serves me well, it's a very tiny risk plus we don't if there were any outside influences such as airborne stones or similar

A C400? I am guessing that's not a UK market car?

I see I'm not the only person to wonder about this after reading the thread title. :D

Used to have a C63...

I confess I also did a wee double-take, as I'd not heard of the C400... evening when I'd looked at E400s.

It'd be a good combo... and I guess the precursor to the current C43?

I think as it’s a bit of a newer engine you’ll find that getting information on faults quite hard, that said if it’s already done that sort of mileage (mainly motorway) and been serviced regularly then it could probably do that again without much issues.

The C400 looks like a nice package (top of the range C class). I’m not a big fan of buying high mileage petrol cars unless the price is right and I don’t intend putting a lot of miles on it.
MB franchises don’t retail cars with high mileages so there won’t be an opportunity to benefit from their bullet proof warranty so I’d be inclined to walk away bearing in mind that most third party warranties aren’t worth the paper they are written on.

The 400 engine in the E class is fantastic so I can only imagine it would be brilliant in a C class.
MB-UK only let us have the C43AMG I think. Is it the same base engine?

Yes, I believe it is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_M276_engine
I've just bought the C400 and will pick it up Saturday. Has 90k on the clock which is much higher then I would normally consider. Heart ruled over head after the test drive... According to the dealer it will easily do twice the mileage :D... for all I care he could have told me any old kind of Sh!t and I would have bought the thing

Its sold according the ad (edit just seen it was you).
where are you on the NL. I was in AMS for 4 years (6 years ago).

I found MB prices ridiculously highy with the high mileage too cf to UK prices. Ohh and be ready for the ball busting tax bills.

enjoy the car

I live just outside Amsterdam. Been here 16 years.
Indeed owning 'big' cars in NL isn't good on the wallet. For the C400 I will pay approx 70 EUR fully comp per month (no idea how that compares to the UK these days) On top I'll be paying approx 1200 EUR / year tax. If you want diesel you can multiply that last figure by 3. They don't want you to have them.
I don't recall the Dutch government announcing electric only from 2030 as in the UK. I may have missed it, that said the amount of Teslas' here is sickening. Lease owners have been paying zero tax on them the past couple of years but ironically they'll be losing that benefit next year iirc .
The C400 is immense. I think my neighbours hate me now though

For the reasons you noted above thats why in NL everyone either has a Tesla or a 1 litre car. Nothing more annoying when you are on the motorway in a big merc wanting to open her up and the car infrom is struggling to get over 80kmh
