An old B-Class.
Left rear coil went over the weekend on the Old B-Class.

Seems it may be worth replacing both.

Any thoughts please?

If there’s any localised rust on the other one I’d say yes as it’s that rust where the break happens.

My Landy I had both fronts (and shocks) changed last week even though only 1 went. On my SLK I only changed drivers side rear spring 3 years ago when that failed.

I always do suspension and brake components in pairs.

When I had the front offside spring go on the SLK I replaced both, but when the front offside went on the S204 it was a time of heavy bills so as the other side looked OK (mechanic's view, not mine) I only had one renewes! No further front suspension problems with the S204 since (touch wood) although the ESL/EIS fun this past week has mysteriously cured itself!!

Hi last year we had a front coil go on my SLK and I had both changed as there can SOMETIMES be a height difference if you only change one and the car MAY be lopsided. Would that effect tyre wear???

Beware F1 Autocentrres for spring price, my S204 spring was £100 which I think is a bit OTT.

One of the rears was broken on the CLS.. brought a pair of Eibachs for about £80/£90 to my door, turned out the the other was about to break when it came off so as above, there’s always a reason to do things in pairs.

I would.
Replaced wifes old 2002 A class rears at 59,000 miles.
one was cracked right through near the bottom cup.
Did that one first and lowered the car, the other side then looked about an inch lower (on the side not done). So very happy I had the other one ready to fit, fitted it and both same height!
defo had the right genuine MB parts. I guess over time they just compress Somewhat.

Also the unbroken one had some rust starting where it went into the retaining cup.

Do as a pair, the other won’t be far behind….

Coincidentally, the front offside suspension spring went on my E class went a couple of weeks ago. I didn't notice during the day - but it must have gone overnight, because the alarm was triggered at about 2am (car parked behind the house). I just reset it through the bedroom window with the key. But next morning the front offside of the car was abnormally low - the wheel was only just clear of the bodywork. Luckily there's a good place about a quarter of a mile away from my house. I asked him to replace both springs. I had been told before (see below) that if one goes, you might expect the other to go at some stage in the near future. Cost more, but it's a kind of insurance, I guess. Just for info, went at 165,800. Cost was around £320 for both, which I thought was pretty reasonable.

My previous C class had exactly the same problem some years ago - front offside. That went when I got in the car in the morning - a bang from the front offside (gave me a nasty shock!). I took that to an independent close to where I was living at the time, who also advised me to get both sides done (which I did).

Must be all these potholes and bumps - I don't charge over them but over time...

Nah. It is your weather conditions and salted roads. Here in Oz, with much drier conditions and no salt, very rare to have a spring break.

My CLS eats springs as part of its regular diet of oil and fuel, probably needs the roughage to function
